Civil War has been a tradition for Hillcrest and Bonneville for many years, and each year it gets more and more exciting. In past years our football team built up the anticipation for Civil War by winning other games. But this year’s Civil War was the second game of the year so we didn’t have time to build anticipation and have an estimate of how the game was going to go. But that didn’t stop the team from being confident that they were going to win. “Everyone was hyped for the game and we had confidence that we were going to win,” Lucas Benson (11) said.
With the team having confidence it helped them play better and pull out a win of 46-28. The crowd was insane for the entire game! They were cheering for our team all evening. “The crowd was most hype when our team received the ball and got touchdowns,” Evelyn Covarrubias (12) said. “The crowd got super loud and supportive!”
All throughout the game the student section was throwing baby powder in the air for each touchdown, and doing all sorts of chants. At halftime Knightline, the dance team, and cheer both performed dances for the crowd. Both of these teams put a lot of time and effort into their dances. “We had practice every morning before school, and we had to learn the choreography at a camp during the summer,” Hannah Petterson (9) said. These girls worked hard and it paid off., “Preparing for the cheer we performed at halftime was a lot of fun, the whole team got to be together and bond while we practiced,” Jatzel Garcia (9) said. Both Civil War and the halftime show were, once again, very memorable and we cannot wait for it again next year.
