Hillcrest is home to many sports and even more trophies and state titles. One of the biggest happens to be Hillcrest Boys Basketball. Basketball is a competitive sport requiring practice, a strong work ethic, and skill. To create a state winning team the coaches have to bring the team together and motivate the players. “We work together because our coaches always get on us for fighting with each other when we are supposed to have each other’s back and this is how we lose games,” Hillcrest Basketball player Ian Dunnells (12) said.
Not only does the team have the passion and drive, they are also family. “I feel like we are all friends off and on the court and have a good connection with each other,” Britton Lords (12 ) said. Basketball is not only about winning and scoring but also relationships between teammates and coaches. Hillcrest promotes teamwork and working together to achieve greater goals. Despite their success, this team of champions has had to overcome heartfelt challenges. As a team, the basketball team chooses to look at the benefits their sport brings.
“I think just always staying positive because we know that we are going to go through trials and mistakes are going to happen,” Bridger Taylor (12) said. “However, as long as we stay positive we will be successful.” Without these challenges, Hillcrest Boys Basketball would not be the program it is today. For the players on the team participating, wearing a jersey for Hillcrest was a lifelong dream. “I did dream to be where I am today and there is nothing I would change about it,” Gage Blakeslee (12) said. Throughout the difficulties that have come or will come, the Hillcrest community supports the victories and even the losses, encouraging this team to give it their all and end up on top once again.
