Have you ever wondered what your teacher’s favorite subject was when they were in high school? Have you ever asked, and when you did, were you surprised? Some of the teachers here at Hillcrest High School surprised us, but at the same time, we could see why they liked that subject. One of the English teachers, Mrs. Larsen, loved English and Yearbook, which might explain her very creative ideas. Mr. Prophet loved Science and Biology, which was surprising as he is a Spanish teacher but also teaches Spanish for Health Professions.
Moving on to Mrs. Shields, our Sewing and Child Development teacher, had Band, Cooking, and Theater as her favorite classes. This makes complete sense because of her bubbly personality. One of the Chemistry teachers, Mr. Crofoot, actually liked Military History and Science. The military part was somewhat surprising, but it makes sense. Mrs. Paice liked doing Art and Science, which then didn’t really influence what she teaches now, which is DC Health and DC Stress and Anxiety Management. Both Math teachers, Mr. Chalupoka and Mrs. Longnecker had Math as their favorite subject in school, which then influenced what they teach now, which is Math. This really didn’t surprise me because it’s something they enjoyed ever since they were younger.
Mr. Webb’s favorite subjects in school were Psychology and Creative Writing, which didn’t really teach and he currently teaches History and the Cold War. This surprised me because nothing he liked in school is anything close to what he teaches now. Overall, when asking these questions, it was very interesting to see what they liked when they were younger. One of the biggest things we noticed what they said was that they really enjoyed the class because of the teachers. This showed us that you can like something now, but it might not influence what you teach in the future.
