High school students are often asked by their parents and teachers what they want to do for a career. Most of the time, they will suggest the traditional route, college. Although this is one of the many routes that students will take, it’s not the only one. There are online college courses to take if you don’t want to go to class. If school isn’t the thing for you, college might not be in your favor. Instead, consider a trade. Trade work will be in high demand in our world, and there will be less debt.
On the other hand, another route is serving in the military. This option will teach you many lessons on hardship and teamwork. High schoolers could also start in the workforce, giving a head start on their financial lives. Maybe you aren’t ready for more school or to start working. Taking a gap year is another option. This route is more of a short break between high school and college. It’s the road of self-discovery. You also have the option to travel the world depending on your budget.
There are careers where having a college degree is required. If you choose one of these careers and don’t like it, consider trying another one or sticking with it. Overall, college doesn’t have to be the only route to take, and you don’t have to make your decisions today or in a few years. Plus, if you didn’t take the college route the first time, you can still take it at any age.
