The Beautiful Mallorca

Julia Sanchez Aguilo, Staff Writer

Mallorca is the largest island of the Balearic Islands. I consider it one of the best places to live in the world, not only because of all the white sand beaches or crystalline waters, but because you can enjoy a very cozy atmosphere at night too. The average temperatures are between 63 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit, which as you can see are nothing like the temperatures here in Idaho. It’s completely different from what you would do here in your free time. For example, in Idaho for half a year, you can hardly do any outdoor activities because if it’s not snowy, it’s freezing cold. On the other hand, in Mallorca, even if it is winter, you can get into the sea and do different water sports, or simply enjoy the beach and the good views. In summer, there are more people, since tourists come to the Balearic Islands to enjoy their holidays and they fill all the beaches. Palma de Mallorca is the capital. There you can find everything from souvenir shops to the most luxurious stores you can imagine. Palma de Mallorca is also known for its beautiful cathedral, which represents a Christian religion but has its doors open for everyone who wants to visit it. One of the things that stands out the most on the Island is the gastronomy. You can enjoy exquisite dishes, from typical Mallorcan sweets to the most unusual things you can imagine. One of the most outstanding sweet gastronomic delights in Mallorca is the ensaimada, which is made from wheat flour, sugar, eggs, and the ingredient that gives its name, lard, which in Catalan is called “saïm”.
