Foundational Foods, taught by Mrs. Becker, is a good class to learn how to cook basic foods.. In this class, you will learn to cook mug cakes, crazy cakes, cupcakes, eggs, and more. In this class, you learn about food and how to cook and store it. There is a good balance between worksheets and cooking. You learn about measurements and how to measure different ingredients. There is not much math, but you will learn how to convert measurements. You learn basic workplace skills and definitions of work words. On mornings when you are not cooking, you do bellwork. These bellworks include questions about work, workplace behaviors, cooking terms, and more. Foundational Foods does not only focus on how to cook, but it prepares you for work.
We interviewed Mrs. Becker, the teacher of the Foundational Foods. She said “I like how it is hopefully designed to give students a basic knowledge of what to do in the other classes.” Becker has many more classes about food and cooking, and Foundational Food gives you the basic knowledge so you can build off of it and learn more in other classes she teaches.
Foundational Foods was started last year; it is a new class. It is a combination of food science, which was discontinued, and teen living aid. Elements of these classes can be seen in the Foundational Food class when you learn about the nutrients that make up food and which food is healthy and how much you should consume.
In conclusion, Foundational Foods is a wonderful class to take if you want to learn the basics of cooking. You make lots of yummy food and learn many new skills that can help you with other cooking classes or regular cooking.
