Mental Health Awareness Month

Kaia Mecham, Staff Writer

May is the month that everything gets better. After a long hard winter, like the one we had this year of 2023, we really need some sunshine in our lives, especially for those who need to be outdoors in order to be happy. The weather is a big part of doing outdoor activities. Yes, during the winter you can do things outside, but it’s just not as enjoyable as it is during spring or summer. Sunshine helps the mind express dopamine, a chemical released in the brain that makes you feel good not only in the mind but in the body. Being active and lively gets the dopamine going and helps  mental health issues, such as depression. There is something called seasonal depression and it is very common so when spring comes around, people usually get out of it and it is very important that you stay out of that depression due to the bad effects it has on the brain. So get outside once it’s warm, enjoy that beautiful sunshine, get yard work done, go camping with your family, go for an adventure. Get outside and have that dopamine going like crazy! Mental health is so important so make sure you are aware of it and make sure you help yourself, so get outside and enjoy life!
